Vaccines continue to remain the best line of defence. The Government has good reason to remain confident that our current vaccines will provide protection against the new variant but the extent of this continues to be investigated.
From Wednesday 15 December all adults will be able to book a booster apppointment online or by phoning 119. We will contact you as quickly as we can to book your vaccine at our local GP-led site in Jericho Health Centre but if you prefer not to wait you can book now via the NHS National Booking System.
All adults who have not yet received their first or second dose of the vaccine, or those who are eligible for their booster are encouraged to get vaccinated to help protect themselves and others.
The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) now advises:
- All adults aged 18 to 39 years should be offered a booster dose, in order of descending age groups, to increase their levels of protection. This is in addition to the previous advice that all adults over 40 should be offered a booster.
- Booster doses should be given no sooner than three months after the primary course.
- All severely immunosuppressed individuals should be offered their booster dose no sooner than three months after completing their primary course of 3 doses.
- Young people aged 12 to 15 years should receive a second dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, no sooner than 12 weeks after their first dose.
The booster programme is being accelerated to raise levels of protection across the population. Widespread vaccination is the best way to help avoid the country having to go back into lockdown. Please make an appointment for your booster as soon as you are eligible.
